This very attractive track-only 2005 Ducati 749R came out of a collection of bikes from an estate sale. It has had a couple of owners but the last 2 never had the bike out to the track. The original owner was a longtime customer of our friends at MotoCorsa in Portland and apparently a true Ducatisti, with a collection that would make anyone jealous. We tried to piece the entire history together but not much was known. The 749R had been parked for 10+ years and ended up with some issues when it was pulled out of storage. Determined to make it right, the owner had MotoCorsa perform a complete overhaul of the top end and bring it back to ready to Rock n Roll status. We have an invoice showing a bit over $7000 in work, including fresh slicks and a front suspension overhaul. The bodywork is for track use only, no street parts were provided.

We see lots of top level upgrades like the full 57mm Ducati Performance Termignoni exhaust system, an STM Evoluzione 48T diaphragm slipper clutch housed in a magnesium ventilated inner clutch housing with a SpeedyMoto "Arun" CNC machined aluminum clutch cover protecting it all. On the opposite side, there is an Evoulzione clutch slave cylinder and a SpeedyMoto water pump cover. Nice adjustable billet rearsets, and CycleCat frame sliders that extend through the Sharkskins bodywork. The fuel tank is not the original aluminum, it was replaced with a steel fuel tank and there is a Ducati performance filler cap with a carbon surround. Both the front brake and clutch pump have been upgraded to Brembo Radial pumps. Although it may not be a competitive race bike against the latest crop of 600's it would make a fantastic track day bike for any Ducatisti. We had our Ducati service tech give it a good look over, only item spotted was a damaged gauge cluster which is shown in the pictures.

We have service records from MotoCorsa, 1 black and 1 red factory key, a code card, and a clear WA title.

PRESS

Homologation model Ducatis are always very special objects, but the 749R is a significant cut above most other R or SP Bologna bikes. Released in 2004, the 749R was Ducati’s entry into the ‘budget’ World Supersport series. Unlike WSB at the time, which was pretty open with its rules, WSS regulations were so tight at the time, not even allowing a change of wheels, that the R is effectively a full-on race bike, tricker even than the 999R.
One of the many changes to the R over the standard and S model 749 was to the engine, with the result that the R has a significant performance boost. Peak power is 121bhp @ 10,250rpm (compared to the stocker’s 103 and the S’s 110) with peak torque of 62.2ftlb at 8500rpm (compared to 56.8 and 58.1 respectively). Like the 999R, the 749R has a totally different engine to the other 749 models. Its bigger bore and shorter stroke not only give it a slightly larger 749.5cc capacity but also allow it to rev higher with less mechanical stress and therefore make more power in race trim.
Added to this are high compression pistons, bigger, lightweight titanium valves and con rods, racing cams, a lightweight crank, slipper clutch and, well, you get the idea. The gearbox was also changed to have closer ratios and race-style, over-tall first gear.

This the 749R’s strongest suit of all – and it’s fabulous, even by today’s standards. Simply, the 749R comes with everything: the signature Ducati trellis frame has a special swingarm that was identical in its construction to the 999 WSB bike’s unit. The steering head angle is adjustable, there’s top-notch Ohlins suspension front and rear and even the wheels are Marchesini lightweight items as the WSS rules dictated only OE wheels could be used by the race teams.
The 749R makes you feel invincible on track, and allows you to push harder than ever before. So what
