This 1996 Ducati 900 SS/SP Supersport has been in the care of Seattle Used Bikes (SUB) since 2013. Interestingly, I had the privilege of selling it to its first owner back in 1996. After changing hands about a decade later through Ducati Seattle, it returned to SUB in 2013 and was purchased by the original owner's brother, where it has remained ever since. When I initially sold this motorcycle from Bellevue Suzuki/Ducati, we added some popular upgrades. These included Keihin 41mm FCR carbs paired with a Termignoni carbon exhaust, lightweight magnesium Dymag wheels, and a Corbin seat. These modifications significantly enhance the riding experience.


Over the past 11 years, we've maintained the bike diligently. We relocated the oil cooler to a higher position using HEL oil cooler lines. Additionally, we replaced the rear shock with a Hagon shock from England and installed progressive fork springs. In 2017, all carbon components were refinished. Other features include a NCR titanium open clutch cover, a Scott oiler and a European headlight switch that allows you to turn off the lights when starting the bike. The most recent service, which included timing belts and fluid changes, was conducted less than 150 miles ago. New tires were fitted at 13,500 miles. We see no signs of any compromised welds on the steering neck or the swingarm pinch bolt areas, which was occasionally seen on early models


This 900SS/SP is in excellent condition and well-maintained. While it has been ridden and enjoyed, it experienced a minor driveway drop in 2018, which was professionally repaired. The bike comes with service records dating back to 2013, the owner's manual, three factory keys, and a clean Washington state title.

Introduced in 1991, the Ducati 900SS quickly captured hearts with its elegant Italian design, characterized by sleek red fairings, understated decals, a white trellis frame, and matching white wheels. This motorcycle offered a refreshing departure from the market's prevailing angular designs, vibrant colors, and four-cylinder engines. By the end of its production in 1997, the Ducati 900SS had sold over 27,000 units, leading to the development of various factory configurations. Popular variants included the half-fairing cafe version and the performance-focused "Superlight" model, featuring a solo seat, carbon accents, lightweight wheels, and a tail section number plate highlighting its sporty nature.
While the Ducati 900SS drew design inspiration from the 851 Ducati Superbike, it shared little mechanically with its high-maintenance counterpart. Engineers chose a reliable air-cooled V-twin engine with a 2-valve head to maintain affordability and ease of maintenance, although this meant sacrificing around twenty horsepower compared to the 4-valve water-cooled models.


Despite its simplified design, the 900SS was a spirited performer, producing approximately 84hp with a consistent torque curve peaking around 60 ft-lb. Journalists praised its lightweight chassis, stable handling, and responsive Brembo brakes (inherited from its Superbike relative) at its launch. The adjustable Showa suspension offered a balanced ride, suitable for both long-distance cruising and spirited cornering.

Not every Ducati earns classic status by virtue of its brand alone, but the 900SS is undeniably a Ducati enthusiast's dream. Its distinctive features include an air-cooled engine, dry clutch, unique bodywork, and an exquisite trellis frame, making it instantly recognizable on the road.
