For those who could overlook the original Kawasaki Versys 650's aesthetics, it was clear that this bike was versatile and capable. Now, with a significant redesign and various enhancements, the 2015 Versys 650 LT looks more appealing than ever. I had the opportunity to test ride this updated Kawasaki in Sicily during its global media debut.


The footpeg position has been adjusted on both versions, moving them 15mm lower and 20mm forward to enhance comfort. Additional updates include a larger windscreen with tool-free adjustments, offering 2.4 inches of vertical movement, and a completely refreshed design. The bike now features a fully adjustable Showa SFF fork, a KYB shock with remote preload adjustment, and an updated braking system with new Nissin calipers on both ends, twin 300mm petal-style discs at the front, and a larger 250mm rear rotor. ABS comes standard.


On the open road, the revitalized chassis left a strong impression. The suspension feels superior to the previous model, delivering firm yet forgiving damping and easily adjustable preload. Wind protection is outstanding, with a calm pocket of air behind the windscreen. Two adjustment knobs allow for fine-tuning the airflow to eliminate turbulence. The new hybrid analog/digital instrument cluster is user-friendly, displaying information like fuel range and an ECO indicator to monitor fuel-efficient riding.
While the Versys 1000 excels in covering long distances and is more suited for touring, the 650 shines as an urban commuter. It remains a well-balanced and highly versatile bike, now equipped with new luggage options, ready to tackle various riding scenarios with ease.
