The 2015 Ducati Monster 1200 balances ferocious mid-range power with daily-riding comfort, though it requires managing intense engine heat and quirky electronic menus. The electronics suite features three distinct riding modes that change the bike's personality:
Sport: Sharpest throttle response, 135hp/145hp, with minimal ABS and traction control intervention.
Touring: Lazier, smoother throttle delivery with increased safety intervention.
Urban: Caps power to 100 horsepower and maximizes safety electronics to handle city traffic smoothly. The power is concentrated heavily in the mid-range between 5,000 and 10,000 RPM, providing massive torque that makes the bike feel like a rocket when the throttle is opened up. The engine tune is relatively soft compared to Ducati's superbikes, meaning it is not highly strung and features long service intervals: 9,000 miles between oil changes and 18,000 miles between valve clearance checks. The electronics suite features three distinct riding modes that change the bike's personality:
Sport: Sharpest throttle response, 135hp/145hp, with minimal ABS and traction control intervention. Unlike older, aggressively crouched Monsters, the 2015 model features wide handlebars and a comfortable, upright seating position suitable for multi-hour rides. However, the passenger foot peg brackets are positioned in a way that hampers aggressive sport riding, making it difficult to pull the balls of your feet back onto the pegs.
